Wat Traimit ,located at Yaowarat Road, China Town, houses the world’s largest solid-gold Buddha image with the massive size of nine feet (three meters) tall and weighing more than 5.5 tons made of about 83% pure gold, recorded by Guinness record for the largest solid gold statue in the world.The Buddha was covered in plaster and thick layer of stucco to conceal it from Burmese invaders and thieves, it had remained unrecognized as valuable for almost 200 years until in 1955, the Golden Buddhas was relocated to the new building, by accident, it fell to the ground, revealing a beautiful solid gold Sukhothai style Buddha.

The gold buddha statue was found to consist of nine parts that fit smoothly together for disassembling and easy transportation.The Buddha image is assumed to be casted during the Sukhothai. There is the style of Sukothai art that had Indian influences on the egg-shaped appeared on the head of the statue, which indicates that it could be casted in the Sukothai period. The buddha image is inside the four-storey marble chapel.
