Wat Saket, The temple of the Golden Mount or ‘Phu Khao Thong’, is a 76-meter high hill with the huge gilded stupa on top contained the relics of lord Buddha brought over from India. The Golden Mount was once the highest point in Bangkok. It is the most well-known landmark in Bangkok with 360 degree view of Bangkok at the top.
To get to the top of the Golden Mount, visitors need to climb up the hill for over 300 steps. The walk up along the way to the top, there are series of bells, flower gardens and statues. On top of the Golden Mount, you will see a line of prayer bells and panoramic view of Bangkok in all directions.
The best time to visit Golden Mount is during Loy Krathong (Full moon) festival, in the November every year. There is a temple fair that lasts 9 days. The Golden Mount is wrapped in a red cloth and there is a candle-lit procession around the Golden Mount.
